Hi I’m Lila Bremner and My pony Lapislazuli and I have just started the season of Bluechip Newcomers and Squibb Foxhunter second round HOYS Qualifiers.
Coming out of the quieter Winter season of Hickstead JC Qualifiers, I need to prepare myself and the ponies for the summer shows.
For this I find the work and feed routine I do at home so important. For their fitness and jump I concentrate on improving their canter by doing lots of small gridwork and flatwork. Usually we will only jump the ponies once in the week round a course. I keep their week as varied as possible including hacks and lunging.
Their feed is carefully chosen for maximum performance and the complete all round nutrition. For this I use Blue Chip Pro feed Balancer which guarantees I have all the necessary vitamins and minerals in their diet along with either Stay Power cubes for one pony and competition mix for the other. They both have Alfa Oil chaff and a joint supplement as well as some extra oil for slow release energy. This works as a balanced diet to power them through even the busiest weekends!
We have just returned from the first pony Premier of the summer at Weston Lawns and first of the Bluechip Newcomers second rounds. The show proved to be very busy, with 101 entries in the class.
Lappi did a nice clear in the first round, going through to the second round with about 30 other clears. The second round was put up by a couple of holes, but Lappi jumped another lovely clear going on to the third round. 16 of us were left so it was set to be a fast jump off. I had an early draw so had to make all the turns and just touched the last but Lappi jumped really well, finishing 10th overall from the 101 starters. We are looking forward to getting back out there for the others.
